It’s that time of the year again when we gaze with amazement at designers’ consistent creativity, and wonder what we’re doing in life–besides being ready to do just about anything to wear those clothes we’re ogling at on the runway. Yes, it’s time for Lakme Fashion Week, and who better than ace designer Tarun Tahiliani to kick-start the event?
The fashion even is to be held at St. Regis in Mumbai, and will see participation of 92 designers, with 15 sponsors backing some of the major shows that will feature the works of established as well as emerging names.
Tahiliani’s show–held at an off-site on Tuesday night–was presented by LYF, a phone brand, and saw Bollywood’s queen, Kangana Ranaut, as the showstopper.
Tahiliani has clearly kept the tone for his new collection earthy and grand, with most models flaunting shades of maroon and black and jade-green and rust-orange.
Some other known designers who will participate in the fashion week are Ritu Kumar, Shantanu & Nikhil, Atsu Sekhose, Antar-Agni, Kallol Datta, Kunal Rawal, Suhani Pittie and Arjun Saluja.
Goan designer Wendell Rodricks will be launching the first-ever Standard Indian Women’s Size chart, which he has been trying to create since 1988.
This season is also special as two models from the northeast will be walking the ramp at the gala. There will also be a show called Assam Day as part of the Sustainable and Indian Textile Day to be dedicated to Assamese designers.
