Udta Punjab, an upcoming thriller co-written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey is tackling a crucial yet sensitive issue in the country- Drug abuse in Punjab.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Films, it features Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Doshanjh in lead roles. The film makers faced a lot of problems, the major one being the issues with Censor Board came out listing 94 cuts and 13 pointers prior to film release. On 13 June 2016 Bombay High Court cleared Udta Ounjab with one cut and disclaimers.
Amit Naik, a lawyer of the film’s producer Phantom Films said the court had attempted a disclaimer that the filmmakers have offered to attach to the film.
Politics did not have a back foot in the entire controversy, which worsen the situation.
After a lot of protests and debates and Court’s final decision Udta Punjab will finally release this week on 17th June 2016. It is an attempt to spread awareness about drug abuse that will soon flood away the entire country if we do nothing about it.
