The third edition of the Chandigarh Style Week rolled out fashionably late with an hour delay at WelcomHotel Bella Vista in Panchkula on Friday.
Opening the three-day event was city designer Priyanka Khosla, who debuted with her first Indianwear line called ‘Mal Mal Tadka’.
An ode to pure Indian textiles like mul-mul, khadi and silk, the designer presented Indian wear in a new format. Working on reinventing silhouettes, she paired full bodied skirts with crop tops, dhoti pants with peplum tops, floor length dresses – a skirt-sari made an appearance as well. Layered Anarkalis, long kurtas with skirts, Khosla’s take on Indian wear was light and breezy.
The showcase that was peppered with popular Bollywood songs saw the designer focus on wearability and looks like she had kept a younger client in mind. A good interpretation of a vintage Indian aesthetic, it was interesting to see a broad spectrum of fabrics being used.
Apart from mul mul, Khosla also used handloom silk, khadi, linen, chanderi, cotton silk, tulle, velvet and brocade.
The idea, as she mentioned in her opening note, is to promote the use of Indian fabrics and create employment for weavers and skilled craftsmen as well.
The embroideries, mostly threadwork were subtle. The second half of the fashion show saw models in her Westernwear collection titled ‘Innocent Garden’.
Here too, the focus was on clean silhouettes and one-tone embroidery. True to its name, floral motifs were omnipresent.
